Configure your Fiber Design BOM

Set up the materials and costs FOND counts in your Fiber Design projects, and apply BOM changes without regenerating your design.

Your BOM rules tell FOND which materials to count in your design and what each one costs. They live in your architecture’s BOM tab.

Fiber Design uses the same BOM rules as Fiber Planner, so everything in Configuring your BOM and BOM examples applies here too. Because Fiber Design produces a more detailed network, it’s worth adding rules for the extra elements it creates.

How BOM rules are organized

  • Categories group related items. In the bill of materials, they appear as tags.
  • Items each have an ID, a description and a cost. Lengths are costed per foot or meter.

The BOM tab is optional. If your architecture doesn’t have one, FOND uses your workspace’s default BOM. If that BOM doesn’t cover equipment your architecture places, the bill of materials will warn you about what isn’t being counted.

Apply changes to your BOM

  1. Edit the rules in your architecture’s BOM tab, and save.
  2. A message on the map tells you that your BOM rules have changed. Click Update BOM.

Update BOM recalculates only the quantities and costs. It doesn’t regenerate your design, and it doesn’t use any premises from your subscription. Each version has its own BOM, so update each version you need.
